Vinous Neal Martin - 25 Mar 25
The 1953 Doisy Daëne, which was made by the late Pierre Dubourdieu, has a deep amber hue. The nose is just fabulous, almost Aszu-like in style, with orange rind, wax resin and mandarin aromas rising up from the glass. The palate is very well balanced with quince and elderflower notes. It has plenty of energy and tension with real weight and depth toward the finish. There’s so much panache and personality in this Barsac. Bottles will continue to give pleasure for many years. Tasted at Ami restaurant in Hong Kong.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
